Coleshill 2nd XI plies its trade in the lower reaches of the Warwickshire County Cricket League. Emphasis is placed on ensuring that all members of the club get a fair chance to play, and that junior members get a good grounding in all aspects of the game. Importantly, this includes the principles of fair play and playing to the spirit of the laws, not just the letter of the laws.

Respect for teammates, opponents and umpires is crucial. There is no ‘win at all costs’ mentality. The philosophy is to ensure that there is enjoyment on the day for everyone with the result hopefully taking care of itself. That’s not to say that we don’t try to win every match…we do! But we don’t do it by constantly questioning umpires, sledging the opposition, or running down the track so that our demon spin bowlers can have an edge when the opposition bat ?.

For more senior members it is a chance to pass on expertise picked up over the years, and to still be an active participant in the game that we all love playing.
It’s an approach that has been proven to work. The membership base is strong, and players come back every week to play because they enjoy it.
