Coleshill Sunday XI vs Ashby & Hastings

Young stars continue to shine in battling loss

After a long journey, the Coleshill team finally arrived at the ground and were ready to begin another day of cricket.

Coleshill started off by fielding first and using Sheragha and Abdul as the opening bowlers. Sheragha bowled extremely well, great pace and minimalising the wickets; a slow start for the opposition. A spectacular wicket was taken and one of the opening batsmen was sent back to his seat at the pavilion. There was some amazing bouncers used by Sheragha which definitely kept the opposition team on edge for what's to come. Great bowling.

Abdul opened on the other side and had amazing swing on the ball. The ball was turning and unpredictable and clearly too much of a burden for 2 players as they were sent back to the pavilion without settling down. Abdul had his line and length perfect and bowled some perfect yorkers which hindered the already unstable opposition. A brilliant start in bowling by Coleshill and definitely a game that seemed to be in our hands.

Hasan came to bowl next with his spell of 6 overs and giving 32 runs. Although not the best of spells, his fielding was on point and he was constantly stopping boundaries and adding more pressure to the opposition. A star fielder today!

New player Waqar then came in next and bowled brilliantly with great pace however they got used to the constant bouncers and were beginning to see a pattern in his bowling in which they then started to hit more runs. The batsmen were beginning to set and so the skip decided to put a spin bowler on to test the different change of bowling on the opposition.

This is then where Zain, also a new player, had his chance to shine. He had some very good balls but it had seemed as if the long day was beginning to have an effect and it seemed as if the effort was begin to deteriorate. He bowled short constantly which the opposition easily swept away and gave away many runs. Still the game was very much in Coleshills hand.

Haider then came on with Eesa. Haider bowled an astonishing 8 overs while getting 2 important wickets and applying much needed pressure to the opposition. They were beginning to set but thanks to Haider, they were beginning to play shots in the air again and were losing their good rhythm however none of these shots were in reach of catching unfortunately. Still a great spell and he definitely showed that the opposition was under pressure again.

Eesa came in last with 3 overs and he had good spin and great line however there could be a bit of improvement on the length. Still for a young lad of his age bowling to County level players, he did well and fielded very well stopping many boundaries and hindering the opponents chance to get a higher score. Overall by all bowlers, a great start.

After a 20 minute lunch break, it was time to bat. Asam and Haider opened the batting and it was a below par performance. Haider lasted a couple overs before getting a top edge and being caught by the keeper. A disappointing way to get out and a a big problem for Coleshill.

Asam was batting extremely well and was hitting some great shots along the ground and in the air going for boundaries in the early game however, due to a lack of human error and a bad bit of umpiring, Asam was out on LBW despite the ball hitting the bat first. An angry and annoyed walk back to the pavilion.

Gul and Faheem were on next and began to set down and make a steady score, they faced a few overs and punched the score up by quite a bit. They had a great time and batted really well however sometimes the urge of a mighty shot becomes too much and both were out by getting caught.

Abdul Hanan was next batting with Waqar. Both batsmen used tactics to help boost the score and win the game. Abdul Hanan blocked many balls which allowed Waqar to have strike and make an outstanding score of 43 by playing various well-timed shots. Good work.

Sheragha. What a player. He was the last hope for Coleshill and he lived up to his standard hitting hard shots high up and great boundaries which made the game so much more enjoyable to watch and play. He was assisted with Eesa who helped run in between the wickets and managed to hold his wicket for a while and give Sheragha the well needed strike, however like the rest of the team both players fell and Abdul and Hasan were on. Abdul managed to last playing basic block shots whereas Hasan played across the wickets which led to him to be bowled and that was game. Big thanks for the support from the opposition and the kindness they showed as well as many examples of good sportsmanship. A great game in a great pitch.
