After a few abandoned games in the last few weeks due to the poor weather, all the players from both sides were yearning for a bit of cricket or escape from their own houses/ households looked super keen to take part in the eagerly awaited contest. The match was accompanied by the usual excitement on a lovely sunny afternoon/ evening.
All the Coleshill players were requested to be at the ground for 5:30 and in the words of Dan Walker and Martin Jenkins (who both turned up at 5:30) found out that most of the jobs were already done by 5:30. Thanks to Dave Peachey, Mohsin and Sheraz for helping at the start of the game. Also, a confirmation that normality had resumed that Ammo was as usual late to the ground but was there for a scheduled 6pm start.
What unfolded was an absorbing contest between two evenly matched sides on paper would say, HSBC won the toss and elected to field first.
For Coleshill, Doctor Ali and Matt Hill went to open the batting and had a steady opening partnership and for HSBC it was Mr Reliable Andy Burns and Coleshill Legend Ammo who had opened the bowling. However, Doctor Ali couldn’t repeat his heroics performance that he had against HSBC few weeks ago and was out for 25 and the total score was 28 in the 5th over. Sheraz was in at number 3 and wanted to accelerate but could only manage 10, which included a six. Dan Walker came in at number 4 with the strategy being that there will be left and right batting combination, however couldn’t score anything as the middle over bowlers from HSBC bowled a very tight line and Dan unfortunately got out for a duck of 11 balls. On the other hand, Matt Hill was constantly rotating strike but struggled to middle a few (I blame his bat – SM). Aminul went in at number 5 and played his usual innings and hit 35 of 18 balls, which included two sixes and one of them was hit at Morrison’s car park. When Aminul got out, that’s when Matt Hill was retired out too and Sheragha and Umang went in, when the score was 112 – 4 in 17 overs which was below par against HSBC’s strong batting line up. Sheragha and Umang got just under 50 runs in the last 3 overs mainly contributed by Sheragha who hit 39 of 12 balls which included 5 sixes. His innings included hitting Craig (HSBC’s best bowler) for 28 in the 19th over. Coleshill innings finished at 161-4.
Adrian Webster and Ben Price opened the batting for HSBC. For Coleshill it was our new youngster Jack and Coleshill’s most reliable player Dave Peachey opened the bowling and both Coleshill bowlers kept a very tight line and never gave any easy runs to HSBC players. Dave Peachey took wickets of both the opening batsman in his spell too. Coleshill’s’ first change and second change were Mohsin and Matt H who again did not disappoint as they kept bowling at areas where they could see from there experience that HSBC batsman may struggle. HSBC’s number 3 (Nadeem) could only manage to make 13 runs of 25 balls and finally perished to Matt Hill by giving him a catch practice caught and bowled. HSBC’s number 4 (Bilal) whom I can confirm was a last minute ringer definitely did not disappoint HSBC team and made 70 of 38 balls which included 5 fours and 5 sixes but finally got out when the score was 123 and there were only 3 overs left. Sheragha and Aminul were the final change bowlers and they bowled a tight line too and HSBC’s innings finished at 12 runs short.
Man of the Match – Sheragha for his brutal batting in the final overs.
Special thanks to all the players for helping before, during and after the game.
Groundsman as usual did a great job.
Thanks to Martin Jenkins too for serving during the game and after.
